Project 2 : Sense of Place

LECTURES
A designer's role is to solve problems with effective visual communication. The problems are ranging from personal goals to community events, and from corporate functions to world changing projects - all through creative, visual communication means.
The Importance of Observation
Being observant means to be attentive to your surroundings, to pay attention to the details and to be analytical about them. Observation can be effective way to get ideas for a designer. Sources of observation can stem from artifacts, daily happenings, physical surroundings, etc.

- Know your subject.
You will notice more if you understand it -
Slow down and look outward.
Use mindfulness to focus your attention on your surroundings. -
Try something new.
Choose an activity that will engage your senses and heighten your awareness.

Improve your concentration by cutting out distractions.
Turn off your phone, log out of social media, or go somewhere quiet where you won't be disturbed. -
Challenge yourself to a mental workout.
A smarter, more agile brain will help you to observe with greater insight. -
Test your observation by playing a memory game.
Describe a photograph, or list everything in the room you're in right now without looking.

Record and consider your observations.
Go beyond the things you see. Note down the smells and sounds you experience too. - Stay inquisitive.
Question and analyze your observations.

REFLECTIONS
Visual Research
For this project, I could not go outside to look for inspiration, so instead I look for some image that I took from my phone during my holidays in last 1 and 2 years. Then I remembered when I went to Japan. Me and my family went to see the Mount Fuji, but sadly at that time the weather was not nice, it was cloudy so we could not see the Mount Fuji. But then we went to a premium shopping center, and I could see the Mount Fuji a little so I took a picture of it.

Then I decided to use the first image for my project this time.
Progress
I began with sketching and traced the image in Adobe Photoshop.

Then, I started by making the background first. I used rectangle tool and gradient tool.

And then I start to make each element one by one. Mostly, I used the pen tool to make them.

I added texture to the path/ road.

For the bush I used the eclipse tool then I used the wrinkle tool to add some effect to it.

Final Result
This is the final outcome for my project 2. The design principle that I used mostly in this project is repetition. As you can see, there are pillars, bushes and glass windows in the left side and there are lamps on the right side. And for the path there is a pattern it it. The reason I chose this place is that because I really miss going on a holiday and when I did this project it reminds me the time when me and my family went on a holiday and this image is in Japan which is a very special holiday for me and my family, I really hope I can go on a holiday again with my family.

Then I move to Adobe Photoshop to make the clouds because the weather
is cloudy, I download cloud brushes and used it.

REFLECTIONS
Experience :
This project is very interesting because we get to look for inspiration from anywhere and put it into a design and add design principles in it. I had fun because I gain some memory by looking through my gallery.
Observation :
I observed that we can find design principles anywhere around us. I also observed that design principles are applicable in our life. We need to look at from different perspective to gain more understanding. On this project, I observed others work and when they added audio, it really affects the design. It gave different vibe when it has audio and has no audio. So I observed that audio may affect our design.
Findings :
I find that this progress is quite different because we were able to explore some place. I also find that I can use more tools to create my design, therefore to design it is not limited because we have many tools that we can use, and by that we can explore more on our design.
