Task 2 : Experience Design Project Proposal

TASK

To do

  • Come up with an experience design project from a subject/topic of their choice. This can be anything from screen experience to physical space experience.
  • Create a professional experience design proposal document that explains their project idea and how will the experience be for the user.
  • The proposal should contain analysis of the current experience, comparison with similar solutions and how it can be better, Sketches to visualize the experience, Mock design of how the final outcome should be from the user’s perspective.

Ideation Process

This task begins by gathering some ideas for our project. I gathered two ideas for this project. The two are not so much different.

Idea #1
The idea is to create an app that allows children to learn through stories or explanations. Children can also do mini-quizzes to help the learning process. This application can also be used as a tool to help them sleep. Mainly involving cards.

Problem Statement
It's important to improve younger generations' educational experiences by allowing them to interact with technology as electronic devices become more commonplace. Despite the fact that many children use these platforms primarily for entertainment, there aren't many solutions available that offer innovative educational technology that enables immersive narratives combined with useful study materials. It would be necessary to create an augmented reality (AR) software combining compelling stories with educational resources appropriate for young learners in order to effectively overcome this.

The features of the apps:
- Story and Study:
Users can scan cards to choose which story or learning material they want and there will be a character that will pop out to help the children.

- Mini quiz:
After finished studying certain material, the app will ask them if they want to take the mini quiz or not.

- Mini Game:
There will be two levels, arranging based on color and arranging based on shape and color.

Idea #2
The idea is an application that helps children study by utilizing augmented reality. When a card is scanned, this application will display a 3D model of every image on the card being scanned. Users can explore different material learning models by interacting with the 3D model.

Problem Statement
Children have difficulty studying effectively and with interest when textbooks are the only primary source of information used in the classroom. For children, it creates a demanding environment that makes learning tiresome and boring, limiting their capacity to learn effectively. Additionally, this problem has a negative impact on their self-esteem, which affects their academic performance. In order to ensure that children can access and understand the educational materials required for their academic performance and their own growth, it is crucial to tackle this problem.

Working Process
After receiving feedback, I will finally go through the second idea. First of all, I think about the target audience that matches my application. I think the target audience is children aged 3-6. Then I thought of a suitable and easy lesson topic so I chose the topic of animals. After that, I got the idea of a name for my app which is AR Learniverse.

Mr. Razif is there to give us the structure of the proposal at TIMES and we can use it as a reference. I then formulate the goals or aims of my project. The following are the aims/goals of my project.
  1. Improve how users learn by making it more fun and engaging.
  2. Help users understand what they study easily
  3. Facilitate collaborative learning experiences by allowing children to engage in shared AR activities
The next part is the research and the first thing I did is to create a user persona. I created my user persona using Canva. I created 3 user personas. Each of them comes from different countries and has different challenges and goals as well. The following is the user persona that I created.

Then I created a user journey map based on my idea. I want to create a user journey when studying in class. I created my user journey map using MIRO and the following are the results.

I also made it in the form of a table with more explanation.

User Journey Map
NoTouch PointsPain Points
1Gather school supplies and enter the classroom-
2Class starts and the teacher explains materials in the textbookThe user finds the explanations too boring and it is hard for the user to digest much information in one explanation since there is no interaction
3The user studies about animalsIt is hard for the user to understand because the image is unclear. The learning process is lacking entertainment. As a result, the user can't focus on class and get bored
4The teacher asks questions and opens a discussionBecause the user hasn't understood the materials and can't join the discussion because to shy to answer.
5The teacher gives homework and the user needs to reviewThe user will have another hard time studying and understanding the materials. The user has difficulty recalling specific information

Then after creating a user journey map and existing problems, we have to make a proposed solution. The following is a table of proposed solutions to problems in the user journey map.

Proposed Solutions

2The user finds the explanations too boring and it is hard for the user to digest much information in one explanation since there is no interaction
The image will be displayed in 3D by the application. The 3D model can be interacted with by the user to explore the diagram further. The 3D model will also have an animation. As a result, the user can understand and process the information much more easily. Additionally, it will be an interesting approach to study. This application can also be used by teachers to explain materials.
3It is hard for the user to understand because the image is unclear. The learning process is lacking entertainment. As a result, the user can't focus on class and get bored
4Because the user hasn't understood the materials and can't join the discussion because to shy to answer. The user can recall the information by just scanning the image on the textbook or cards or QR code
5The user will have another hard time studying and understanding the materials. The user has difficulty recalling specific informationThe application will provide a mini quiz to help user to study for the materials

After that, we need to create a new user journey map. This new user journey map is the user journey when you want to learn to use applications from my project idea. The following is a new user journey map.

I also made it in tabular form and here is the result.

User Journey Map

1Sit and review the last material on class--
2Open textbook and look for the learning material--
3User studies about the animals on the textbookUser get more explanations about the animalsUnclear image and explanations (lack of guidance)
4Open app and scan the image/ card/ QR codeUser can get a better view of the image of the animalsDifficulty when scanning the image/ card/ QR code
5User interacting with the 3D model that pops outUser is now fully understanding the image. User can now study more easily and in a more interesting wayUser will have to hold the phone when scanning the image to study
6User wants to review her/his understanding by choosing the mini quiz feature
User can test out his/ her understanding of the material which will improve the ability to recall information. User can also identify areas where he/ she may be lacking understanding or knowledge.
Forgot the material and can't answer some questions
7User answers the mini quiz questions
8Get the final resultsUser are aware that his/ her understanding of the material has improved and feeling satisfied-

Next, we also need to create a visualization or mock up of our application. I used Figma to create it. I also fetched 3D assets from the Unity Asset Store. I happened to find a suitable animal 3D asset.

I screenshot the image and I crop it using Adobe Photoshop.

After that I opened Figma and designed a mock up there. There are several pages that I created for the mock up and this is the result.

After that I sorted out which pages I would include in the proposal and the contents were the results along with the short explanation.

Move to the creative direction section. We need to choose a color palette, font, and iconography and create a mood board for our application. Lastly, we need to put our references for the project.

Color Palette
Bright and vibrant colors capture children's attention and create a visually stimulating experience. Children are naturally attracted to bold and lively colors, which can help engage them and make the app more appealing. Colors have the ability to stimulate feelings and affect moods. Bright and cheery hues like red, yellow, and orange are frequently linked to happiness, energy, and positivity.

Typography
Verdana sans-serif is a good font for app design because of its readability. Verdana was specifically designed for on-screen use. Verdana scales well across different sizes and resolutions, ensuring that the text remains readable and visually pleasing. For this application, Verdana will be used as the Headings as well as the Body.

Iconography
Children rely heavily on visual cues to understand and navigate through apps. Bright icons with simple and distinct shapes and colors make it easier for children to recognize and associate them with specific actions or functions within the app.

REFLECTIONS

I found this module to be quite challenging. I understood we would be exploring the world of 3D assets after seeing the work of our seniors. I found it tough to understand the exercises. I started to feel concerned about the challenges I would face with this project.

For task 2, however, I made an effort to come up with an idea that would not only solve possible problems in the future but also be interesting.  I discovered that I was continuously going back and changing my ideas.

Mr. Razif's feedback turned out to be very helpful and important. It highlighted areas that needed development and provided suggestions for how to strengthen my ideas. His advice and thoughts helped me develop my strategy.

My goal going ahead is to continue to successfully apply my ideas to my project. To make sure that my ideas are both interesting and achievable, I try to create a balance between creativity and practicality. Despite the problems this module has offered, I am determined to take them as opportunities for development and learning.
