PROGRESSION

Week 1

In Week 1, our batch gathered in the classroom for a briefing on our major project. Our lecturer, Mr. Asrizal, explained the project's scope and objectives. He also told us that we could work in groups for our final project.

Mr. Asrizal outlined the marking criteria and showed us examples from previous batches. These examples helped us understand what was expected and inspired us as we started our own projects. He mentioned that we need to prepare our ideation and consult with him next week.

After the briefing, I decided to group up with Esther and Luisa. We brainstormed and settled on the idea of developing a kids-tracking app. We poured our ideas into a MIRO Board and began looking for references to guide our development.

Week 2

In Week 2, we consulted with Mr. Asrizal about our kids tracking app idea. Unfortunately, he didn't support the concept, as he felt that developing an app was too mainstream for a UI/UX project. Instead, he encouraged us to consider creating something more innovative.

Mr. Asrizal suggested exploring other types of projects and mentioned that some students were working on product ideas. After our meeting, we discussed and decided to pivot to a new project idea: creating a box for submitting trash.

Despite this new direction, Mr. Asrizal was still not satisfied with our idea because he believed there were better competitors. As a result, he assigned us to work under Mr. Razif as our supervisor for the Major Project.

Week 3

Starting in Week 3, we no longer needed to consult with Mr. Asrizal. Instead, we had a consultation with Mr. Razif, during which we presented our Recycle App ideation. Mr. Razif suggested that we create a Business Model Canvas to help him better understand our idea.

Over the next two days, we each developed our ideas and documented them on a MIRO Board in the form of a Business Model Canvas. My idea was to create an app for managing events in one place.

During our follow-up consultation, we each presented our ideas. Mr. Razif acknowledged that all three ideas were good and left the decision up to us. After discussing our options, we agreed to combine Luisa and Esther's ideas, taking into account which concept had easier 3D assets for our AR feature.

Week 4

In Week 4, we divided the parts of our project to work on individually. Luisa took charge of the branding, Esther focused on the AR feature, and I worked on the low-fidelity prototype of the app. I initiated the creation of a Figma file so we could collaborate effectively on our projects.

We spent quite some time deciding on a brand name. Our first choice was "Accio," inspired by Harry Potter. We also gathered some references from Pinterest to decide on the aesthetic we wanted for our project. Here is the logo design attempt done by Luisa:

Then Esther helped create the timeline

Additionally, I created a form for survey questions to gather user insights. Later in the week, we created a presentation, dividing the work among ourselves, and presented it to Mr. Razif during our weekly consultation.

Week 5 - Week 6

In Week 5, we amended the survey questions before sharing them. Although we initially settled on "Omorphile," we were still unsure about the name. We decided to find another name and wanted something with "Dazzle" in it. After some deliberation, we finally landed on "BerDazzle."

With our brand name finalized, we began working on the branding, low-fidelity prototype, and AR feature in earnest.

Week 7 - Week 8

During Weeks 7 and 8, I helped summarize our survey results and included them in our presentation. Esther then assisted by fixing some of the grammar. I began by looking for references for the app

And subsequently started designing some of the pages for our website.

Week 9 - Week 12

During Weeks 9 to 12, I focused on designing the high-fidelity prototype after receiving feedback from Mr. Razif. Here are the initial designs for our high-fidelity prototype that I created:

In Week 12, we had a presentation scheduled. I helped prepare the presentation while the others focused on finishing their parts. Here is our presentation for Week 12, during which we received some feedback from the lecturers.

Week 13 - Week 14

During Weeks 13 to 14, Luisa suggested that we might need to do some rebranding. After discussing it, we agreed that Luisa would amend the current branding. She developed a new logo and a fresh art direction for our brand.

Meanwhile, I focused on finishing other pages of the application.

I also helped create the invoice design to be put on the application

I also worked on the Instagram design during this time. Most of the design was not organized or planned yet; I created templates so we would have them ready for future content.

And here's my references

We also needed to work on the key visual for our final year showcase. The key visual would be used on the presentation board and the booklet. Luisa and I collaborated to finish the key visual while Esther focused on the website design. Here is the design we prepared.

Week 15 - Week 16

During Weeks 15 and 16, I designed our thank you card and the keychain background design for the packaging.

I also helped Luisa by tracing her sketch for the postcard and sticker using Adobe Illustrator. Once I finished tracing, I handed the file over to Luisa, who added more color and details. Afterward, I compiled all of the designs into one AI file to prepare them for printing.

Additionally, with the new branding and art direction, I helped design a new layout for the website.

REFLECTION

So far, the major project has been one of the modules I’ve most looked forward to because it marks the culmination of my studies. For our batch, we were allowed to work in groups, and my team and I decided to collaborate, especially since we are also roommates, which we thought would make it easier to work together. However, expectations and reality don’t always align. We faced many challenges during the process, with communication being the most significant issue. I felt that we didn’t communicate effectively with each other towards the end of the project, leading to misunderstandings that we had to straighten out. I learned that no matter what happens in our friendships or during the project, we must maintain professionalism. Personal matters need to be set aside. This lesson doesn’t only apply to our team but also to other groups based on my observations.

I am grateful for the many things I’ve learned throughout this major project. We’ve had many fun and interesting experiences together, from the silly process of brainstorming name ideas to creating the mascot. The climax of this project was the exhibition and its preparations. I helped my team prepare packaging for the merchandise and printed extra items, which I found to be a very interesting experience. We decorated the booth and figured out how to display the Beauchi pillow (our mascot). The arrival of some of our loved ones, such as our parents and friends, was incredibly valuable, and I felt very supported. The Final Year Exhibition is something I’ll never forget.

I also want to thank my teammates for the hard work we’ve gone through together. I would like to express my gratitude to our supervisor, Mr. Razif, who always gave us crucial feedback that helped us improve. Thanks also to Mr. Asrizal as the main lecturer for this major project module. Finally, I want to thank my parents and fellow classmates.
